MDNA TOUR!!!

This past Monday, I had the greatest time of my life. I went to see Madonna’s MDNA Concert at  Madison Square Garden in New York. My client, Alicia Quarles of E! News, invited me to be her guest at the must-see concert of the year. We skipped the opening act and arrived at the arena at 10pm. We were just in time for Madge to come out and show her loyal followers what she got. I grew up listening to all of Madonna’s songs. At 53, the singer can still do a performance of a lifetime.  Arianne Philips, Madonna's long-time stylist, collaborated with the performer with amazing outfits. Together they modernized her infamous corset from Jean Paul Gaultier in time for her famous song in the 80s, “Vogue”. To close the show, she sang her most controversial song “Like a Prayer”. All I can say, Madonna can kick ass. She knows how to make the audience go wild. I am so glad that I was a part of this glorious concert. Thanks to Alicia for always thinking about me.

FENDI'S SHOES OF DESIRE!!!

My obsession for shoes started when I was a teenager. I’ve always been fascinated by statement shoes. For Spring 2013, Fendi delivered a phenomenal collection. Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Fendi took inspiration from the classic pump and rubix cube. They modified the pump in the form of color blocking. They added cascading blinds to the front of the shoes to emphasize modernity. The stacked heels have spike details in the form of rubix cube. To sum it up, the combination of the two gave birth to a work of art. I know these shoes must cost a fortune. It is not bad to save up for next year. I believe it is worth your money. You will stop traffic on the streets of New York, Paris, Milan, London, and Tokyo wearing these fabulous shoes. I must say that Fendi gave me a big smile for next season.

RIHANNA'S ANGEL WINGS!!!

The most anticipated fashion show of the year happened this past Wednesday. It didn’t stop the Victoria Secret Angels to strut on the catwalk at the New York State Armory. Due to Hurricane Sandy, the building didn’t have power. The National Guard came to the rescue and provided generators for the event. There was a snowstorm that evening, but the show pushed through. It was a star-studded affair. Alessandra Ambrosio, Isabelli Fontana, Adrianna Lima, and Karlie Kloss were the top models that graced the runway. A-list musicians with the likes of Rihanna, Justin Beiber, and Bruno Mars serenaded the guests.  On the pink carpet, Rihanna wore a black and white ensemble from Miu Miu’s Spring 2013 collection. The black top didn’t fit her. On the other hand, the skirt was too long. She could have opted for royal blue shoes for a pop of color.  If she wanted to go sexy, she could have chosen pieces from Balenciaga’s Spring 2013.

Her performance dress was spectacular. She chose a black Vivienne Westwood Coutures strapless gown with a high slit.  The hosiery and french lace opera gloves added sexiness to her outfit.  To complete the whole look, she accessorized her ensemble with vintage pearls from Chanel and a statement pair of sunglasses. She could have been one of the models because she blended well with her outfit.

In my opinion, the Vivienne Westwood dress is way better than her pink carpet ensemble. Rihanna is a rockstar. I am glad to see her style evolving throughout her career.

DIOR MAGNIFIQUE OR NOT?

After the horrific hurricane Sandy and snowstorm that hit New York, the parties in the city resumed. This past Thursday, Academy Award winning actress Marion Cotillard graced the red carpet to promote her new movie, “Rust and Bone”. The premiere was held at New York’s Landmark Theater. Dior and The Cinema Society hosted the event. After she won the Oscar for her performance in “La Vien Rose”, Marion was named to be Dior’s brand ambassador. In her contract, she has to wear the collection for red carpet, TV, and movie appearances. She gets her first dip in Raf Simmons’ Spring 2013 debut collection in ready-to-wear for the house.  This is her 4th look from Raf’s collection. I love the idea of a cape-like dress, but this look does not suit her. It made Marion look shorter and shapeless. I believe this dress is fit for a model or an editorial shoot. Since she is the face of the Dior, they could have made a custom version of this dress with a shorter length. On top of that, I haven’t seen Marion look good with her hairstyle. She should take note that the hair and make-up sum up the whole look. Hopefully, she will redeem herself from this red carpet disaster. She is a stunning lady and it’s easy to make her look beautiful.
