Calvin
Klein, Narciso Rodriguez, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Prabal Gurung, Jason Wu,
Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, and Donna Karan were the top
designers who showcased their amazing collections during New York Fashion Week. Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa showed
white/black couture like collection. What caught my attention? A white
strapless dress with a 3D knit overlay. I thought it was genius. Narciso
Rodriguez’s clothes were to die for. I am a big fan of his work. Aside from his
linear details, he added floral beadwork embroidery to his collection. The
clothes are softer but sharp. Michael Kor’s bright and fun 60s inspired
collection reminded me of the early days of Courreges. He used all the colors
of the rainbow. I thought it was fun and inspiring. On the other hand, Marc
Jacobs knows how to put a show. His inspiration of Edie from the 60s became the
start of a remarkable collection. Stripes, swirls, and zigzags were the
dominant details in the collection. When everyone goes to the right, he makes a
dramatic turn to the left. Prabal Gurung’s inspiration from an Indian artist proves to show his love for art. Most designers will take it literal, but he
interpreted in a modern way. Jason Wu’s Helmut Newton inspired collection gave
his women the vixen persona. It was a
departure from his Shanghai Express collection. Women would love to wear it.
Rodarte’s barbarian sci-fi collection gave New York Fashion week a strong
boost. The sister’s know how to WOW their spectators.
I am so proud of them. Alexander Wang’s clothes gave me fond admiration
for the designer. At the end of the show, lights went off to show the glow in
the dark effect of his clothes. Lastly,
Donna Karan collection was a nod to nature. The colors of white, camel, blue,
pink, and green gave life to her pieces. These designers showcased magnificent pieces. I am so glad they made a difference during fashion week.
