There is a new designer on the block and her name is Betina.What amazes me? She is still finishing up her degree in fashion design at Parsons. Betina Ocampo is the daughter of Tina Maristela Ocampo of Celestina. Her parent’s
company specializes in exotic skin bags, minaudieres, and furniture. A-list
celebrities with the likes of Sandra Bullock, Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore, and
Alicia Keys wore her mother’s creations on the red carpet. Because of her
parent’s family business, she was inspired to do her own line. She did research
what’s lacking in the ready-to-wear market. She came up with the idea of doing
specialized t-shirts… the Betina label was born. Inspired with her travels in
Asia, her hand-embroidered shirts separated her from the rest. Barneys New York is the first store to believe in her designs. Her shirts are currently sold on
the 5th floor of the Madison Avenue flagship. Her collection retails from $300-$1000. She is a perfect example for aspiring young designers to pursue their
dreams.
