I have been talking about my mystery man in my previous entries. I almost forgot what I love most... talking about fashion.
I have seen the documentary film of Valentino and Giancarlo Giammetti, "Valentino:The Last Emperor." To be honest with you guys, I have seen it 7 times. That's what you call LOYALTY. Am I right Mr. Valentino?
I admire Valentino's work. He is a master couturier. Admiration does not lead to being a fanatic follower. He retired last year. It is so difficult to follow the footsteps of a great master.
Alessandra Frachinetti, former designer of Gucci and Moncler, was appointed to take over Valentino's reigns. After two disastrous seasons of pret-a-porter and haute couture, they had to let her go.
It is right to hire someone who understands Valentino's design aesthetics. The company hired Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. Their names are hard to remember. They have been designing accessories (bags, shoes, belts, costume jewelry, and little trinkets) for Valentino for more than 10 years. They absorb Valentino's vision of what the house should be.
In the beginning, they had a slow start. The designs they showcased for Spring were too safe.
Guys hold your breathe! For this Fall 2009 Haute Couture show, they are on the right track.
For the first time, I have seen a young and modern Valentino emerge from the runway. Most of the outfits were done in black. For every piece, they've shown what a true couturier does.
The workmanship that went into each ripple and shadowy layer of tulle was divine, yet somehow the designers successfully dodged the hazard veering into overdone froufrou.
True enough, Valentino anointed the right people to take his throne.
