If I have a budget for couture, I'd spend it all in Christian Dior. I am so amazed how John Galliano can keep up with the challenge. He is a true genius. He knows how to make women yearn for DIOR, whether it be ready-to-wear or haute couture.
Times are tough. He knows how to adjust and redirect the house into its current economic times. Well! He follows his LVMH bosses without sacrificing the design creativity of a true Galliano.
His inspiration came from Mr. Dior's mannequins in the 1950s. He paid homage to Dior's craftsmanship in the art of making haute couture. True enough, he showcased the collection in Dior's dove gray salon. Remove all the theatrical elements, Galliano's clothes for Dior pops out.
Bright and rich colors were used in the entire runway collection. What a way to make his customers happy? The accessories were toned down. The hats... unbelievable.
Galliano also knows how to wow his audience by mixing sheered pieces with covered tops or skirts. A ball skirt paired up with a bra top reminds me of Prada's early days. Sheer hosiery and panty hose paired with an origami peplum jackets... that's what you call a TWIST.
My forecast: a sold out couture show.
